Car has over 117,000 miles and is excessively consuming oil. there is no sign of leaks anywhere. i do not get any warning anywhere about low oil, all i see is a small message that sometimes blinks indicating 'oil pressure'. oil is not lasting 1000 miles. i thought maybe the oil was not properly filled but after a second oil change, same happened, oil empty with less than 1000 miles after an oil change. car has been always kept with all recommended maintenance and all oil changes have been done every 5,000 as recommended by toyota. have never been in any accident that could cause any engine problem, seems this is a factory defect. in the electrical part, power back door does not close/open, there is a recall for that but no dealers in my area will fix it because one of the parts that is inside that motor is not listed in the recall specs and dealers will not fix unless i pay. i took the car to the dealer about 2 years ago. this refers to the warranty enhancement letter zg4.
Our 2015 highlander steering intermittently locks up and has a complete loss of power. first happened when starting the vehicle and had to sit and start and stop over 15 times and the steering finally came back. we immediately contacted toyota and they said this vehicle had no recalled parts and there is no problem. when it happened the second time we took it in and they said it had a bad battery and the problem was fixed. we paid a hefty service fee and paid for a really expensive battery. two days later it happened again and while moving on a city street about 35/40 mph. we got over safely but was so dangerous. took it back to toyota and they are telling us the vehicle has no problem and we just need to use it till it happens again and bring it back! if we don't kill ourselves or another motorist! after doing our own research we find our car is doing exactly what the vehicles with the recall are doing but they will not replace the eps system and toyota is putting us back on the road in a dangerous vehicle. so now we only have one ...
Interior lights on and off; warnings e.g .hood open when not; did not (light) alert cars along side or passing; module cracked by tapping to delete phone #s put into system by toyota tech, navigation started on its own and it was incorrect!; maps incorrect to location; map showing north as south and east as west all when car in motion
The battery failed after we owned the car for 2 yrs and 11 months (mileage ~44,000). the replacement battery cost about $450 including installation. this is excessively early failure, and we are out a large amount of money for something that should not have happened with this new of a vehicle. it took 1 month to get the replacement battery. also excessive.
The vehicle was parked in our driveway and has twice had rats chewing on the coolant temperature censor wiring. these are the only wires they've chewed on so far. i feel the soy based wiring that toyota uses is to blame since my neighbors are not having problems with their vehicles that are parked outdoors. a claim with usaa has been filed.
Driving in a major city, with my wife and two small boys in the back seat, came up on a stop (police closed the road and traffic was stopped. we wait 10 minutes before i place the car into park and doors unlocked. once traffic started moving only, we heard lock the locks engage but they actually did not engage thus leaving all doors unlocked. as traffic started moving a homeless man opened my door and assaulted me because my doors were not locked. i pushed back and pulled my door closed and manually switched the lock to engage. then i did the same to my back doors where my kids were. once we got home and put the car into park, the doors did not unlock. i pulled on the handle, pushed the lock out and the lock would not disengage. if there had been and emergency and i had to flee the car i would be unsuccessful and would be injured.
Entune radio/headunit (hu) reboot itself while in a call. reboot occurs while vehicle is in motion at any speed, during any driving condition. as the hu reboots, driver is unable to use rear-view camera and any other feature displayed in hu. road attention is affected since driver is distracted by the screen going black and on again. also if driver is in a call has to end call from the phone and call again using the phone.
I sent a letter to toyota motor sales usa after being refused service at a local dealer to resolve a safety issue, with no reply. while pressing brake when starting i got a couple of error messages that said to contact a toyota dealer. i did some very detailed research into this problem and what others had encountered. i found the errors would only show when the 12 volt battery was getting low on charge. the brake booster pump is one of the suspect items draining the battery because it continues to run long after the vehicle is parked. since i don't have the tools to check the current draw on this or if it is even supposed to run long after the vehicle is shut off, i wanted my toyota dealer to check this. there is a " customer support program notification - zkc" related to this for the brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump assembly. i specifically requested that they check out the electrical component of the brake booster pump even if not covered by warranty. i also told them about the errors only occurring on a low 12 volt battery charge. their diagnosis showed an ...
